Assieme alla precedente raccolta di studi, pubblicata nel 2002 (Biblical Commentaries from the Early Middle Ages Firenze, cfr. MEL XXVI 14944) esso costituisce una sorta d'introduzione all'esegesi biblica medievale, che rimane ancora in gran parte inesplorata. I singoli saggi, segnalati a parte, sono preceduti da puntuali retractationes e nel volume riportano anche la paginazione originaria. Concludono la raccolta la lista delle pubblicazioni dell'A. degli anni 2001-2006, in parte già apparsa (anni 1998-2002) nella precedente raccolta, l'indice dei mss. e quello generale (autori, opere, testi e luoghi).
