The A. examines the methods of the multiple compilators of the Latin infancy gospel known as the «J Compilation», based on an analysis of selected passages in its longest version, the Arundel Compilation (London, BL, Arundel 404, ff. 1-19, s. XIV), to be distinguished from the version known as the Hereford Compilation (Hereford, Cathedral Libr., O.III.9, ff. 114v-133, s. XIII). She argues that certain passages show evidence of new compositional activity by the multiple compilers, suggesting their interest in creating narrative unity. The A. also discusses Western knowledge of the infancy gospel
Protoevangelium Iacobi; the interrelationships among the «J Compilation» and other New Testament apocrypha (
