Fol. 3) , ff. 42v-56vTradizione del testo: L'opera, allegata come supplemento alla Vita Karoli di Eginardo, era senza dubbio dedicata a Carlo III il Grosso (morto nel 888); essa probabilmente è rimasta incompleta fin dall'inizio. La tradizione emerge duecento anni dopo, nell'XI sec.: per l'editore H.F. Haefele è fondamentale il codice Hannover XIII.858 (H); egli ritiene il Viennese 532 (V1) una copia di H o dello stesso modello di H; bisogna però notare che V1 porta un testo più esteso, è più antico di H e presenta lezioni che non possono derivare da H. Tra i quattordici codici citati da Haefele sono interessanti i mss. Stuttgart, WLB, theol. et phil. 40.242 e St. Florian, SB, XI.38: questi due testimoni tramandano una rielaborazione del testo, che tuttavia potrebbe contenere anche passaggi originali di Notkero.
